The Reading Lab is a community-centered book club for Black, Brown, Indigenous, and Melanated folks in the Hudson Valley. We read, reflect on, and celebrate works by authors whose voices and stories reflect our identities and experiences. This is a space for connection, conversation, and collective growth. Together, we explore narratives that honor the depth, complexity, and brilliance of our communities while making room for joy, nuance, and honest dialogue. Set in a quarantined Detroit during a mysterious plague that leaves people unresponsive, Grievers follows Dune as she investigates the outbreak while navigating poverty and her mother's illness. Tracing her late father's research into Detroit's history, she uncovers the unexpected magic that emerges when the debt of grief is cleared. A story of loss, community, and survival amid systemic collapse.
